College Graduation 2011.

College Graduation 2011.

Before I start my entry, I’d like to open it up with…

A big WOOOOHOOOOO!

I have finally graduated from university, fulfilling the daughterly obligation to earn a decent degree in preparation for adult life ahead.

Holding my Cum Laude medal (Thank you Lord!)

My high school Alma Mater, Bethany Christian School, also gave me a recognition award along with my 4 other batchmates who received honors.

I was really glad that my family was complete during my (most probably) last ever graduation ceremony. The thing with life milestones is that you all are obliged to be together for even just a few moments, and there are nice pictures to keep that give you that warm tingly feeling inside. :3

For the 32443578th time already… I know, I know. I look like my dad.

For as long as I can remember, I don’t think anyone I’ve ever met has correctly guessed that I was taking up IT. (Unless they follow me on twitter and read my neverending Software Engineering project rants… lol. So sorry about that.)

They’d be like, “Programming? Whaaat… I thought you were like.. From CAFA or something.” Or at least Fine Arts, they’d say. (CAFA is USC’s College of Architecture and Fine Arts)

But yeah, I have to admit that was the most obvious choice ever since I could color with paint and draw on paper. However, my mom told me going into a computer course was the most practical choice since I learned HTML and made my own dotcom at the age of 11 or 12… Got hooked on the Internet since I was 10 and started with Yahoo!’s Geocities and a few years after started playing around with Photoshop. My endless hours of playing PlayStation also inspired me to dream to be involved in the gaming industry.. Aaah and yes, a mix of the arts and technology would be the heavens for me.

When I thought about taking up Fine Arts purely, I had that picture of me selling paintings along the street to earn an income! When worse comes to worst.

I’d like this entry to contain some of my memorable moments while I was in university. I won’t assure you it’s anything interesting… Just for me to remember how university was for me. Not in any particular order:

1. Sleeping in class…

Because school life sometimes gave me 7:30AM classes everyday!
It doesn’t help that I live 30-40min. away from school either. Plus that time when they constructed that Talamban “flyover”…. I’d get stuck in the same spot on the road for 15-30min.

2. Reading in class…

Aaahh… I must say I’ve read good books while I was in school.
I breezed through the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series! I love Percy!
The worst read I had during Quality Management class was The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo…. I’m so thankful I didn’t have nightmares with that book.

3. Bible study and fellowship…

I look forward to Tuesdays and Fridays! Say hi to mah brothas Ian and Jon.

4. My awesome classmates and teachers…

We went to the beach together and had fun with the beach toys in Coco Palms Danao.
Don’t forget our ‘awesome’ Indian teacher who doesn’t act like a teacher at all (and who constantly prodded me to join activities)!
Hi Sir Lavin. XD

Playing cards. Most of the guys played Polar Bears though. I have yet to have any idea about what that game is about.

Haha, so cute Maam Sionzon! This was her surprise birthday during QMP class.
We shall never forget her life stories about Japan and her kids.

Some of the girls.

Some of the guys. I have no idea why they’re holding up a #1 sign. Haha! Team Bulabog.

BECAUSE I CAN’T BELIEVE I CRIED DURING THE RETREAT!!! My goodness.
I was teasing other people about crying but it ended up that I cried as well when I heard my classmates’ sentiments to me. Huhu. I was really blessed to have really nice people to study with (really really! Haha). I have to admit a lot of my classmates took care of me in a way. A handful of them were kind of protective and really sweet. Always helpful and so down-to-earth.
Special mention to Carla Signe, John Terrado and Ian Ong! πŸ™‚

5. Those great defenses…

Database 1 Project groupmates – John & Carla – Nya Nya Online Shop (PHP)

Defense day… Discussing the Use Case Diagram. Glasses on because I’m serious. Look at Carla stiffen at the pressure we faced..

SoftEng 2 groupmates – Carla, Alyxies, Millicent & Mel – PharmaAG SIS (C#)

I’d rather not put photos of our struggles leading to the day of defense… All too haggard.

6. Photography life….

First meeting we attended to join Cebu Digital Photographers.

Planning my photostories and executing them during weekends after class.

Flying to Manila missing class just to shoot my first editorial for TotalGirl magazine. One motto I made for myself that developed from college was “Life is more important!”

Weigh your options properly. Practice discernment. Get wisdom. Listen to your passions and dreams. Ask advice from your parents and elders.

In my case, I chose when to skip class and when to procrastinate homework for things that would have more value in the long run.

It could be a balance of all things.. It could be the prioritization of what’s most important to you. In the end, what holds those together would be your own outlook on life. To choose to be happy about who you are and be contented with what’s already there for you.

For example, during shoots, it’s always “Make the most of what we have” when I plan things with those who are involved.

I could go on and on… But maybe some memories would be best kept and remembered by heart. The most important aspect of my journey up to now is my growth as a person. I’ve made friends with people I never knew I could get along with. I’ve learned about things I never knew culture contained. I’ve met some of the strangest and equally fascinating characters around. I’ve learned to hold on to people who matter and let go of those who don’t. I learned that there are a handful of friends who are amazing people on earth, who become like your family (and you are lucky if you’ve come to find them!). I’ve been to places where I never thought I could go to. I’ve allowed myself to dream continuously as I learned more about myself as an individual.

It’s always important to keep learning… To keep improving yourself, to remember that the world doesn’t revolve around yourself, to help others when you can, to be quick to listen and think3x before you speak, to be slow to anger, and to stay strong and steadfast about your values and beliefs for those are the foundations of your own person.

Rick Warren (author of the best-selling book, “The Purpose Driven Life”) said, “No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on. And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.”

Just like Jenga, go through decisions carefully… But when everything tumbles down, build yourself up and start over again! Put your game face on, like my friend Byron. Haha πŸ˜€
