IMAX SM Cebu First Glimpse.

IMAX SM Cebu First Glimpse.

James Cameron’s Avatar as the first movie featured in SM Cebu’s IMAX 3D theatre.

Heeey everyone and especially movie lovers! Yup, this entry is about the IMAX in SM Cebu. The first and only one outside Manila!!

The Cebu Digital Photographers group, bloggers, and the press and media were invited to the special screening of Avatar yesterday night. I was really excited when I first heard about this exclusive event. Complimentary tickets are always full of awesome. =D

I went in with my fellow club members and the first thing I said (okay fine. Honestly, EXCLAIMED) when I got a glimpse of the screen was “HOMAIGOSH ITS SO BIG!”. It’s four times bigger than the average movie screen and curved at an angle. It’s not as big as the one in Sydney where I had my first IMAX experience BUT to think that Cebu already has this is already very very cool.

What really impressed me though was the surround sound. When I’m watching movies I often have to elbow my companion and go, “What? What did she/he say??”. Sometimes the sound in movie houses is terrible, sad to say! Especially action movies where all you clearly hear are machine guns and whatnot. Bam bam bam.

I’m kidding about the bodyguard, of course.
And no, you’re not allowed to bring a camera much less take pictures inside the movie house. Teehee.

BUT good news to us Cebuanos, the sound in the IMAX theatre was super impressive! I never had to elbow my bodyguard, ehem, Johan Sisno, to ask what dialogue I missed at all. (You know I’m kidding Kuya J. haha) This is because there are speakers around the whole theatre and even at the back of the movie screen! Good science at work here, lads.

Anyway! So here’s what I can say for those interested in their own SM City Cebu IMAX experience…

First off, if you love 3D then you HAVE to watch it in IMAX. Now, watching 3D in the normal theatre sizes will never be enough.

Secondly, if you are able to choose seats then choose the ones in the middle!

And last but not the least, if you can take it (given that you don’t get dizzy or nauseous watching 3D movies), go sit in the first, second or third rows!!!

Here’s the tentative movie schedule taken from Doyzkie’s blog:
July 9-14 — James Cameron’s Avatar
July 15 — Inception 2D (Full IMAX Screen)
August 4 — Hubble 3D
Sept. 25 — Legend of the Guardians 3D
Nov. 18 — Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2D
Jan. 08, 2011 — Tron Legacy 3D

But wait, there’s more!

For their opening promo, they’re giving out a free IMAX baller for every ticket purchased from July 9. I guess this is until stocks last~ Special thanks to Allan Florendo!

It’s really funny how much I sound like I was paid to promote this but I’m not okay! This is really my unbiased review on yesterday’s experience. :))

A very unbiased review indeed Anney.

As their tagline goes IMAX Rocks!!!

In addition, the Cebu IMAX theater experience as observed is much more better than the one in MOA. 🙂

Okay, I went back again. Great movie! I love it and don’t mind going back to see it again. Have a question for you (not that I think you’ll see this cmmeont) Since you are into comics, do you remember Superman vs. Muhammad Ali? I found my copy of it and read it. A couple of things peeved me. Though there is no doubt Ali was superior Superman only last two rounds? Come on!
